Citizenship should NOT be based on serving in the military. Too many criminals, spies, join the military to avoid prosecution or to avoid being known who they really are. I can understand an immigrant who has been vetted and who is NOW a naturalized citizen and of course those who are BORN HERE. We had some really bad people in the military when I served who joined just to have secrecy. I don't want a guy in a foxhole next to me I can't trust in a combat situation.

40 out of 70,000 have been discharged. This is a hit job on the administration. Fake news. Next!

70,000 immigrants serve in the Army… they find 40 and call it a problem. I served in the military for over a decade, and this is straight up untruth and misdirection. They are trying to play up the xenophobia angle, while ignoring that these people were rejected for a legitimate reason!

The title 'The US Army is quietly discharging immigrant recruits' gives the impression that they Army is getting rid of immigrant recruits when this about discharging about 40 recruits who they didn't complete background checks on.

Illegal vs legal immigrants? Not sure because the video says nothing about that. What I know (having been in the Navy for 10 and recruiting for 3) There is a process for legal immigrants to serve and streamline citizenship. Not so for illegal. This is where words matter. The fact the military is unable (for a small percentage…video says 40 out of thousands) complete the background check should tell you something. It doesn't mean they are slow or inept. It means there is something (or lack of something) in that individuals background that would allow them to continue to serve (They are in a "delayed entry" status). This has been the policy for quite some time. Only a story now because immigration is a hot topic and Time needed a story. I'll bet those being released have an idea why they are being released. And many of these situations are private so the military would not be able to discuss. I love how all of the bashing liberals below think they are so informed yet their ignorance is evident in their comments about how immigrants enter the military. In their MSNBC world if it says so on TV or in the media world, it must be true. Or just type or say the counter opinion is fed from "Fox fake news".

If they are illegal, then report them to ICE as well after discharge.
It seems to me that attempting to join the military under false pretenses would be a felony offense.
This is a matter of national security. It is beyond ridiculous to believe that any nation would allow people who snuck into the country illegally to serve in the armed forces!!!
I guess today's progressives who are SO outraged over this have never heard of spies before.
You open-borders people have gone 100% bat shit crazy.

I don't what to make of this story. When I joined in 1994, the US ARMY recruiters wouldn't speak to me unless I provided my citizenship paperwork. When I arrived at Fort Benning GA, every recruit is a US citizen.
I hope this political bullshit get straighten out and give anyone who willing to serve his/her country(USA), Fight for his/her country(USA), and die for his/her country(USA) the opportunity to become a proud citizen of the greatest country in the world, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!HOOAH

This is factually incorrect regtation of a story that wasnt researched. This deliberate misinformation to stoke more racial tensions and riots. After your misleading magazine article doing the same thing came to light, you think a reputable news agency would at the very least reseach the program information off a source other than hearsay.

You have to serve a term before you get honorably discharged. They don't just give to you an honorable status days after getting to boot. If it were that easy, we wouldn't be outsourcing labor and putting our country at a high risk to grant foreigners privileges few Americans can qualify for.

This is the definition of Fake News. The Army 'quietly' discharges thousands of people. this is nothing new, nor is it in anyway whatsoever a 'Trump policy'. Obama's administration deported combat veterans after their enlistment, because military service dies not guarantee Citizenship.

    Read your CONTRACTS, dumbasses.

The countless investigations(NACI, FBI criminal check, SSBI, Army Counter-Intelligence check, Local Police check etc) take more than 2 years to be finished just so u know. Some people can't even finish all these checks in 2 years. Easy said than done because you have no idea how these people have gone thru and you will never understand the feelings of them!

The policy of discharging immigrants and denying them citizenship after their service is wrong! This is a policy coming from a Commander-In-Chief that cowered under five deferments so he wouldn't have to serve!!!

They are NOT "immigrant" recruits, immigrant recruits have "green card". Those foreign nationals enter the country with non-immigrant visa (eg. student visa), they shouldn't be allowed into the military,

Over sea clearance take lot time and money ,you can not tell people why they are rejected, if was told next time the enemy will send a better prepared ones.
All of those who work on government sensitive jobs, understand we need to be cleared, if not cleared our jobs will be in question. We accept, those USA born one, who are too nervous of the lie detector and can not be cleared, just have to accept that one cannot work on the work. I do not have any direct blood relatives outside of the US. But my brother’s wife did not have citizenship. My clearance did not pass til she got it. That was almost the time for me to retired. I can only work on the work that do not need clearance. I am very skilled, that did not help my status. We all was told and understood.

They should create a foreign detachments just like the French foreign legion. Totally separated and no access to classified materials.
