Iranian Nazir Nazeer UGV Unmanned Ground Vehicle armed with missile Iran defense industry



Last week, the Iranian Defense Industry has unveild a new wheeled unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), called Nazeer or Nazir which can be armed with missile or light machine gun. Iran’s modern defense industrial base was developed during the period of the Shah by an import substitution strategy, in which Iran would learn to produce, assemble, repair and maintain military equipment.

Remote
control vehicles have various scientific uses including hazardous
environments, working in the deep ocean, and space exploration. RCV is
used by police to detect bombs,or some chemicals,etc. It detects
chemicals or whatever with its high-power sensors. The majority of the
probes to the other planets in our solar system have been remote control
vehicles, although some of the more recent ones were partially
autonomous. The sophistication of these devices has fueled greater
debate on the need for manned spaceflight and exploration. The Voyager I
spacecraft is the first craft of any kind to leave the solar system.
The martian explorers Spirit and Opportunity have provided continuous
data about the surface of Mars since January 3, 2004.
Jason is the
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s deep water explorer and can
withstand depths of up to 6,500 feet. The Scorpio ROV is a British
submersible that rescued the crew of the Russian AS-28 on August 7,
2005.
Military and law enforcement[edit]
Military usage of
remotely controlled military vehicles dates back to the first half of
20th century. John Hays Hammond, Jr., invented and patented methods for
wireless control of ships starting in 1910. Soviet Red Army used
remotely controlled teletanks during 1930s in the Winter War and early
stage of World War II. There were also remotely controlled cutters and
experimental remotely controlled planes in the Red Army.
Remote
control vehicles are used in law enforcement and military engagements
for some of the same reasons. The exposure to hazards are mitigated to
the person who operates the vehicle from a location of relative safety.
Remote controlled vehicles are used by many police department
bomb-squads to defuse or detonate explosives. See Dragon Runner,

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have undergone a
dramatic evolution in capability in the past decade. Early UAV’s were
capable of reconnaissance missions alone and then only with a limited
range. Current UAV’s can hover around possible targets until they are
positively identified before releasing their payload of weaponry.
Backpack sized UAV’s will provide ground troops with over the horizon
surveillance capabilities.
Recreation and hobby[edit]

Radio-controlled model. Small scale remote control vehicles have long
been popular among hobbyists. These remote controlled vehicles span a
wide range in terms of price and sophistication. There are many types of
radio controlled vehicles. These include on-road cars, off-road trucks,
boats, airplanes, and even helicopters. The “robots” now popular in
television shows such as Robot Wars, are a recent extension of this
hobby (these vehicles do not meet the classical definition of a robot;
they are remotely controlled by a human). Radio-controlled submarine
also exist.
Recently, Sony Ericsson released a remote control car
that could be controlled by any Bluetooth cell phone. Radio is the most
popular because it does not require the vehicle to be limited by the
length of the cable or in a direct line of sight with the controller (as
with the infrared set-up).

DRDO LAUNCHES ROBOTICS & UNMANNED SYSTEMS COMPETITION FOR STUDENT COMMUNITY



The Defence Minister also launched a website, ‘DRDO Robotics & Unmanned Systems Exposition’ or DRUSE for inviting the young & talented minds of engineering community from all parts of the country to take part in Defence Challenging applications.

Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) wishes to harness the multifaceted talent available in the country on Robotics and Unmanned systems. DRDO aims to tap these indigenous capabilities to create a platform for the development of futuristic defence systems. The objective of this exposition is to identify and nurture novel ideas in different parts of our country. This is an exposition of ideas to support our defence forces to gain the decisive edge in future warfare. This exposition targets national talent among student community from engineering background currently undergoing UG or PG only.

The exposition shall be theme-based. However, the themes are not meant to restrict other ideas of relevance to potential defence applications. Participants can showcase their problem-solving capabilities considering utilization to defence applications. They can exhibit their innovative ideas through simulations, concept papers, presentations or working models. These ideas shall be reviewed at multiple levels by screening committees consisting of experts. The participants can choose any approach to communicate their ideas that they consider most effective. The aim of participants is to convince the screening committee on two primary fronts – (a) of the utility of the idea and, (b) the capability to convert that idea to a reality.

Objectives of DRUSE

DRDO Robotics and Unmanned Systems Exposition (DRUSE) is designed to serve as an open platform to popularize and synergise the national talent in the areas of robotics amongst Students for conceptualization, design & development of Unmanned Systems for defence applications. It aims primarily:

To provide nationwide platform for participants to show case their best
To educate community about the importance of Robotics in today’s scenario and popularize the field and related technologies for defence applications
To encourage innovative ideas and indigenous efforts
Identify promising potential who can work for DRDO in the development of unmanned systems for defence applications
Opportunity to learn and assess current national status and potentials in the field of Robotics specifically related to the defence applications
Identify technology gaps and infrastructure for indigenous development of Robotic systems for defence application

National level recognition & visibility for all participants
Exposure to fraternity of robotics & unmanned systems
Possibility to work with DRDO on cutting edge technologies
A platform to showcase products/technologies
