Royal Tongan Marines support US Marines in Afghanistan



The Kingdom of Tonga is a country in South Pacific Ocean that worked closely with U.S. forces during World War II. Today, Royal Tongan Marines are deploying to Afghanistan to support coalition forces. Sgt. Jeremy Ross has the story.

Tongan Navy rescues Fijian Colonel from under the Fijian Miliraty



Rebellious Fijian Colonel Mara was rescued in a covert operation by the VOEA Savea patrol boat, part of the Tongan Navy fleet of patrol boats. The boat is armed with 7.62 mm machine guns, and 12.7 mm machine gun.

Mara is now under the protection of the Tongan Royal Family.

Fiji Lieutenant Colonel Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara had been accused of sedition and being part of a plot to overthrow the military dictatorship of Voreqe Bainimarama.

Like most natives of Lau Group in Fiji, Mara has strong links afamily ties to Tonga.

Fiji has since issued a warrant for Mara’s arrest.
