When an F-15 is better than an F-22 or an F-35

When an F-15 is better than an F-22 or an F-35

Insider, Justin Bronk, a Research Fellow specializing in combat airpower at the Royal United Services Institute, revealed why the F-15, originally introduced four decades ago, is still more useful than either the F-22 or the F-35 in certain situations.
The F-15 is a traditional air superiority fighter of the fourth generation. It’s big, fast, agile, and carriers lots of weapons under the wing where everyone can see them. For that reason, it’s terrible at stealth, but the other side of the coin is that it’s perfect for intercepting enemy aircraft.

Why is the US spending so much on the F-35 fighter jet?

Why is the US spending so much on the F-35 fighter jet?

WASHINGTON – Despite incessant technical problems and delays, the US military has no plans to cancel the new F-35 fighter jet, the costliest weapons program in Pentagon history.

The Joint Strike Fighter has been touted as a technological wonder that will dominate the skies but it has suffered one setback after another, putting the project seven years behind schedule and $167 billion over budget.

Pentagon To Offer F-35 to India In Upcoming Tech Transfer Talks

This video shows you that Pentagon To Offer F-35 to India In Upcoming Tech Transfer Talks.
Accompanied by a high-level official delegation and representatives of several US defence companies, under secretary of defence for acquisition, technology and logistics Frank Kendall will arrive here next week. Topping his agenda would be the review of existing transfers and identifying new high-end technologies to strengthen New Delhi’s military capabilities. Kendall, a top Pentagon official, will reach Delhi on July 27 for the joint technology group meeting with India’s defence secretary G Mohan Kumar. He is also the US’ point person for the bilateral Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI).
Highly-placed sources told FE that the heads of several defence majors including General Atomics, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Honeywell and Raytheon are accompanying him and they will interact with the Indian defence industry captains at a breakfast meeting on July 27. In a joint statement at the end of PM Modi’s recent visit, the US welcomed India’s ratification of the Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage earlier this year and the significant steps taken by Nuclear Power Corporation of India and Westinghouse towards finalising contractual negotiations by June 2017 on a deal to build six AP1000 reactors in India by 2030. The joint statement stated, “Once completed, this project will fulfill the promise of the US-India civil nuclear agreement, will create jobs in both the United States and India, and will advance our shared clean energy objectives”.
US company General Atomics, which is in talks with the Indian Navy for unmanned aerospace systems, is also a world leader in radiation monitoring systems for nuclear power plants at over 120 sites globally. General Atomics is eyeing huge opportunities in India along with Westinghouse and other nuclear reactor makers. Vivek Lall, global chief executive at General Atomics, will also be interacting with the Indian industry captains. Incidentally, American aerospace majors Lockheed Martin and Boeing have been offering shifting of whole production facilities to India for the F-16 and F-18 ‘Hornets’. “Both companies have made two rounds of presentations to the ministry of defence. Lockheed Martin has been told by the authorities that India is not keen on F-16s and Boeing, which through its tie up with Tata Aerospace, is already making components in India that are used on board its fighter jets,” said sources.
However, after getting clearances from the Obama administration on what information can be provided to India by the two aerospace companies, Lockheed Martin is expected to offer F-35 for the Indian Air Force and Boeing might offer making more parts that could be fitted on board the F-18s.

What if Russia’s Su-35 Went to War with America’s F-35 Stealth Fighter

While the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is slated to become the mainstay of the Pentagon’s tactical fighter fleet, not everyone nation on Earth can afford to fly an expensive fifth-generation fighter.

Even Russia and China are not likely to attempt to develop an all fifth-generation fighter fleet—instead, for the foreseeable future, the derivatives of the Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker air superiority fighter will make up the bulk of their tactical air arsenals. The most potent Flanker derivative is the Su-35, which is a much-improved version with vastly improved avionics, engines and airframe. In the years ahead, this latest Flanker-E is likely to proliferate around the world.

How would a group of four F-35s fare if it were confronted by a formation of four Su-35s? The most likely answer is that they would change course and call in the F-22 Raptors and F-15Cs, which are tasked with gaining and maintaining air superiority. Meanwhile, the F-35s would go on their merry way to their assigned targets.

Unlike a Raptor, which was designed from the outset as an air-to-air killer par excellence—the F-35 was not. The Raptor combines a very stealthy airframe with a high altitude ceiling and supersonic cruise speeds in excess of Mach 1.8. Compared to that, the F-35 can just barely touch Mach 1.6 in full afterburner. Further, the F-22 possesses excellent maneuverability for close-in visual-range dogfights––it crushes the competition in terms of turn rate, radius, angle-of-attack and energy addition at all altitudes.

Whereas a four-ship flight of Raptors cruising at high supersonic speeds in the rarified atmosphere above 50,000 feet can effectively choose when and where to fight, a flight of slower, lower-flying F-35s might find themselves forced to react to better-performing enemy planes if they are not careful.

Moreover, the F-35 does not have the speed or altitude to impart as much launch energy to the AIM-120 air-to-air missile as the Raptor can, which means the missiles will have less range when fired from a JSF. Nor can the F-35 carry as many air-to-air missiles—which is a problem given that digital radio frequency memory jammers can wreak havoc with the AMRAAM’s guidance system.

U.S. to send F-22, F-35 fighter jets to Seoul air show

美 스텔스기 F-22•F-35A 다음달 동시에 한국 온다

Washington will be sending F-22 Raptors and F-35 stealth fighters to take part in the Seoul Air Show next month.
According to a defense ministry official… the jets are being deployed to warn Pyongyang over its provocations… while also participating in the fifth Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition, or ADEX.
The expo will be held for six days starting October 17th… at Seoul Air Base.
An Air Force official says more than 400 defense firms from 33 countries are expected to take part in the biennial event, making it the largest since the first one held in 2009.

U.S. Navy to upgrade USS George Washington for new weapons, F-35 fighter

美, F-35C 스텔스기 탑재 항공모함 확대…조지 워싱턴함도
The U.S. Navy is beginning a massive upgrade to its USS George Washington aircraft carrier to enable it to accommodate the F-35C carrier-launched stealth fighter.
According to the U.S. international affairs magazine “The National Interest,” the 25-year-old Nimitz aircraft carriers have been undergoing midlife refueling and technology upgrades since last month …so they can serve for another 25 years with newly configured structures and weapons systems.
The two-year-long process, dubbed Refueling Complex Overhaul, costs about two-point-eight billion U.S. dollars per carrier.
The plan for now is that the USS George Washington will operate the F-35C fighter by 2021.
