I'm disgusted Superman didn't get his chance to speak publicly in BVS. Such a sloppy, unnecessarily dark film.

In the summer of 1987, I was THIS close to becoming a servant of the American Empire, but literally hours before I was supposed to go to the military recruiter's office, I watched Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, walked out of the theater, joined the Peace Movement and aiN'T looked back since … It cost anywhere from 17 to 34 million dollar$ to make, so I guess that's how much I'm worth …

"It is deeply troubling that the US has allocated 185 billion to augment its nuclear stockpile over the next decade on top of the ordinary annual nuclear weapons budget of more than $50 billion … Every dollar invested in bolstering a country's nuclear arsenal is a diversion of resources from our schools, hospitals and other social services and a theft from the millions around the globe who go hungry."

"Russia and America are still on hair trigger alert as they were in the 1980s, but everybody thinks the nuclear threat of global annihalition has been resolved because the cold war ended. In fact, because of the public's ignorance, the nuclear threat is much greater than before."
–Dr. Helen Caldicott, named by the Smithsonian Institute as one of the most influential women of the 20th century
… combat that ignorance by focusing on Superman IV's MESSAGE instead of psychotically obsessing over its flaws.

"A rogues' gallery of US and international corporations invest in or help finance the corporations making nuclear weapons – JP Morgan Chase, Key Bank, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, MetLife, Allstate, Mass Mutual, Travelers Insurance, TIAA-CREF (a large mutual fund that is supposedly 'socially screened') and Nuveen Investments are among the hundreds of firms involved in the bomb-making business."

"Skeptics tell us, and have told us for many years, that we are wasting our time pursuing the dream of a world without nuclear weapons, as it can never be realized. But more than a few people said the same about ending entrenched racial segregation in South Africa and abolishing slavery in the United States."

"We continue to spend over $50 billion a year on the U.S. nuclear arsenal. This makes NO sense. These funds are a drain on our budget and a disservice to the next generation of Americans. We are robbing the future to pay for the unneeded weapons."
    –Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA)

… I owe over a 100K in student loans, but I ain't payin' shit — not so long as fifty billion is WASTED on nukes …

Nuclear deterrence 1) diverts economic resources desperately needed to meet basic Human needs around the world. Globally, approximately $100 billion is WASTED annually on nuclear forces. 2) has no effect against non-state extremists, who govern no territory or population. 3) is vulnerable to cyber attack, sabotage, and Human or technical error, which could result in a nuclear strike. 4) sets a BAD example for additional countries to pursue their own nuclear deterrent.

I think Reeve had a great idea that was sadly bogged down by the terrible production company.  Maybe it was a bit too preachy, but you could tell his heart was in the right place.

Maybe it's this particular computer, but I'm only able to see MY comments IF I log in and that's highly suspicious, to say the least. Am I redundant? doN'T give a fuck. Am I abrasive? doN'T give a fuck. I'm impoverished partially because of all the money that's WASTED on nukes, so this is personal, but if my redundancy and personality are keeping Sharon Dagan or whoever from thoroughly enjoying a rigorous debate, THEN SO BE IT. I'm NOT, repeat, NOT the slightest bit concerned with however entertaining this discourse is. ALL nukes MUST be abolished YESTERDAY. If the result of that is boredom for those who're spoiled by generations of privilege, then again, SO BE IT.

I find it highly suspicious (to say the least) that Psycho3418's shitty, cynical comment — not to mention deadbutmoving's anti-immigrant bigotry– are the very first ones that people see (since first impressions are lasting) — it is my most sincere hope that, if there's ever a major terrorist attack, it's Psycho3418's AND deadbutmoving's hometowns that gets NUKED … Let's see how snarky their bitch asses sound THEN …

"Nuclear deterrence does NOT protect us. If it did, there would be no need for missile defenses. Nor would we object to other countries developing nuclear deterrent forces. And, of course, nuclear deterrence does not even apply to terrorist organizations, which have no territory to retaliate against and may be suicidal. Nuclear weapons are actually suicidal weapons … They may also be omnicidal weapons, their use leading to the death of all."
