A pair of elephants were rescued yesterday from the sea by the Sri Lankan navy. The elephants were swept off to the sea in between Round Island and Foul Point, Trincomalee this morning.
An inshore patrol craft noticed the animals in distress and alerted the Department of Wildlife in Trincomalee.
A mammoth rescue operation was launched by the navy and wildlife officials to save the animals from drowning, personnel reached with fleet of boats and used ropes to tie the jumbos. They were towed back to shallow water unharmed.The video shows the animals struggling to keep their trunks above water. The personnel used ropes to tie the elephants and guide them safely towards the shore.
