38노스 “북한 SLBM 시험발사 준비징후 포착”+ 北 김정은, 2주째 공개활동 없이 잠행
A U.S. think tank says North Korea may be speeding up its development of sea-based nuclear forces.
That’s based on satellite images of a submarine in the North, and could explain why Kim Jong-un hasn’t been seen in the North’s state-run media for the past couple of weeks.
Kim Hyo-sun reports. The U.S.-based North Korea monitoring website, 38 North, says Pyongyang could be preparing for a new submarine-launched ballistic missile test.
Citing recent satellite images of the North’s Sinpo Shipyard,… the website explained that netting or tarps have been placed over the North’s Sinpo-class submarine,… obscuring activities taking place beneath them.
This is exactly what the regime did in the lead-up to its last submarine-launched ballistic missile, or SLBM test in July of last year.
Recent ejection tests of an SLBM carried out late last month also suggest a fresh missile test could be on the cards.
Pundits say it could also be why the North has not reported on the public activities of its leader Kim Jong-un for the past two weeks or so.
Kim was last spotted on state-run media on July 31st, when he attended a ceremony celebrating the successful launch of its ICBM a few days earlier.
They also explained that it’s highly likely the regime will carry out a missile test soon… as joint military drills between Seoul and Washington get underway later this month.
