French company Areva presented its newest generation of robots designed to replace men in nuclear power plants. According to Areva’s announcement, the robot called RIANA (Robot for Investigations and Assessments of Nuclear Areas) is capable of operating in radioactive areas to map, taking samples and measuring radioactivity. On the motorized platform, measurement or sampling modules can be interchanged dependent on the situation. The tool is also equipped with 3D and thermal cameras, as well as laser detectors, in order to help it negotiate its way around obstacles.

Well this only the start of the needed improvements in nuclear power but clearly points the direction the industry will take. Next will be robots to replace humans all around the plants and since the radiation can't really be contained all over the whole world. It is important to make the world safe for the production of the nuclear power that will be needed to power all those robots. The earth never needed those pesky living organisms just better machines.

This is how robots should be used, in "dull-dirty-dangerous" jobs only. They shouldn't replace humans in other jobs.

Now that really looks frightening my future is doomed by a robot that can pick up a nonsensical peace of rubbish from the floor , my dog does that and better , Timon go tell mum to make me a coffee , Timon Bring me my Cigarettes , Timon Take granddad for a walk , Timon, go tell the neighbor to keep it quiet , Timon How about a big Hug , Timon don't let anyone leave until i get back 🙂 and all that with 6 months training one hour a day 🙂 how long have these wankers been at it ? how much money has been wasted ? to pick up rubbish at snail pace with two men to control and maintain it , Hahahahha ! Looks like Dumb and Dumber in full swing, May be i can train them to do the job but it might take them longer than training my dog ! Hahahahah !

It seems like every time there is a nuclear accident , they roll out a robot to attempt in aiding decontamination, it promptly ceases responding due to radiation levels, and then everyone forgets that happens so we can do it again in a decade or two.

at this speed, there will be 100 fukushima explosions, and the whole world dead.
i'll give it 50yrs before these robots can move fluidly and fast like humans,
and the ability to be agile with a human touch.

You have to do a lot more than take rad surveys to run a nuclear power plant. But that's RT for ya, always with the click-bait titles.
