I am with you on that. I went and started lockpicking as a hobby just to prove to myself that fact, how we have an illusion of security. In fact, delving into social engineering, locksmithing, and the world if hackers and their conferences, you can see exploits on the most sacrosanct objects (locks, ATMs, security cameras, computer systems, etc.). Security for the most part is an illusion; a feeling people like to goad us into thinking we have because of access restrictions and such. Really, the weaknesses ablund, be it from people that you can trick to cheap mechanisms that were a product of the desire to achieve a price point or product release at the price a subpar level of quality. The ramifications are scary, knowing how easy locks are picked and how people and systems can be tricked to allow access to goods and information to which a hostile actor may want access. All these big break-ins and leaks from various government agencies and private institutions have their roots in a security exploit someone found.
